Summer Undergraduate Students join our group

Ekaterina Voytsekhovskaya, junior from Minnesota State University Mankato, and Joseph Domine, senior from St.Mary’s University of Minnesota join our group end of May to work for 10 weeks as Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) fellow. Ekaterina will share her time by working 4 weeks in Dr. Rasulev group at Coatings and Polymeric Materials.

Ekaterina is majoring Chemistry. Her research project at NDSU relates to study on effect of unsaturation in vinyl monomer from plant oils on cross-linking degree and properties of polymer films made from plant oil-based monomers copolymerized with styrene. At NDSU, she works under supervision of Zoriana Demchuk.

Joe is majoring Physics. At CPM, he works with Oksana Zholobko on a project related to synthesis of copolymers for enzyme conjugation and application of conjugates in bioconversion of cellulose. Joe studies how molecular weight and composition of the copolymers might impact the enzyme conjugation and, respectively, the activity of conjugated systems in hydrolysis reaction.

SURE program is operated by Coatings and Polymeric Materials Department to provide undergraduate students (usually juniors and seniors) the opportunity to experience a research environment and to encourage them to pursue a higher degree. Coatings and Polymeric Materials offers this program each year. The program serves in educating the next generation of specialists in the field of polymers and coatings, as many students who attend this program go on to graduate school at NDSU, in this department.
