Project summary

Renuvix LLC is a start-up company that was founded by researchers at North Dakota State University (NDSU).  The products that are being commercialized by Renuvix are novel resins and polymers derived from plant oils and sugar.  The products are useful for industrial (i.e. non-food) applications such as paints and coatings, lubricants, composites, rubber compounds, inks, adhesives, plastics, and personal-care products.  Multiple patents are pending on the materials.  Renuvix is currently in the process of sampling select products to potential customers and scaling-up at a toll manufacturer to meet the goal of commercializing 2 to 3 initial products by the end of 2014.  Since these bio-based materials are new to the market, Renuvix will be expected to provide extensive customer support in the form of application development.  In addition, process optimization support is required for scale-up and manufacturing.  The objective of the proposed project is to assist Renuvix with commercialization efforts by providing support for application and process development activities.  The team at Renuvix and NDSU will work together to obtain the data necessary to support efforts to introduce these new bio-based materials to the market.  In addition to application and process development activities, a significant portion of the funds will be provided to the NDSU Research Foundation to pay for costs associated with obtaining key patents on the technology.
